Advertisement:1st Step – Prepare the Secret Sauce:

- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated. Set aside.2nd Step – Shape the Beef Patties:
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper on both sides.3rd Step – Caramelize the Onions:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Once the butter has melted, add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet.
- Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.4th Step – Cook the Beef Patties:
- In the same skillet used for the onions, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the beef patties to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty and allow it to melt.5th Step – Assemble the Patty Melts:
- Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce onto one side of each slice of rye bread.
- Place a slice of Swiss cheese on the unbuttered side of 4 slices of rye bread.
- Top each slice of bread with a cooked beef patty and a spoonful of caramelized onions.
- Place the remaining slices of rye bread on top, sauce side down, to form sandwiches.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper on both sides.3rd Step – Caramelize the Onions:
