Mama’s Cornbread Dressing: A Time-Honored Comfort Dish (Page 3 ) | November 5, 2023
1st Step
Make a batch of cornbread using the instructions from your go-to recipe. After it has cooled, break it up into pieces in a big mixing basin. You should have around 8 cups of cornbread that has been crushed.
2nd Step
Melt the butter in a large skillet set over medium heat. Add the celery, onion, and green bell pepper that has been chopped. For around five to seven minutes, the veggies should be sautéed until they have become tender and aromatic.
3rd Step
In a mixing dish, combine the crumbled cornmeal with the veggies that have been sautéed. To ensure that the veggies are distributed equally, give the mixture a little toss.
4th Step
On top of the combined ingredients, evenly distribute the dried sage, thyme, rosemary, and parsley. Salt and black pepper may be added to taste as a seasoning. The use of these herbs gives the dressing a richer taste as well as a lovely scent.
5th Step
Pour the chicken or turkey stock over the cornmeal mixture in a slow and steady stream. Begin with three cups and add more as necessary to get the appropriate level of wetness. The combination ought to be damp without being gloppy in texture.
